Problem:
This client made a complaint about a rattling noise upon startup, which worsened half an hour into the drive of the vehicle. Our initial diagnosis of the vehicle showed the inlet camshaft adjuster was worn out, causing a horrific rattle in the engine. So loud that makes you want to switch the engine off completely.
Result:
The result is that now we’ve got to the state where the engine block cover has to be removed. This is the inlet camshaft adjuster. This actually alters the camshaft timing. It’s hydraulically controlled with oil pressure and a solenoid. Once this wears out, it can cause a considerable rattle noise. We also replaced the timing chain as well. Once this is complete, we’ll reset the adaptations and have the car back to the client.
