These are some of the most common symptoms of brake problems that could mean it is time for you to get a brake repair:

• Your brake light is on.

Brake pads press against your rotors and create the friction necessary to bring your car to a stop.

The rotors are at the heart of every braking system. For your vehicle to stop, all four of the rotors need to stop as well. The brake pads attached to each rotor cause the friction needed to bring the spinning rotors to a complete stop. 

Calipers are a part of the brake system. They create pressure that is needed to activate the brake pads so that they can stop the rotors from spinning. Calipers need brake fluid to properly function.

Brake fluid is necessary for a properly functioning brake system. By pressing on the brake pedal, the pressure is then created in the brakes lines which send the fluid to each caliper. This activates your brake pads which creates the friction needed to stop your vehicle. 

A brake hose takes the brake fluid to the calipers to help activate the brake pads. 

Brake fluid naturally attracts moisture, which can get through sealed systems. When this happens, it causes the fluid boiling point to lower, which increases the chances of corrosion and poor braking. The brake fluid needs to be replaced to reduce this risk and prolong the life of the brake components. 

A little bit of brake noise is unavoidable. Between stop-and-go traffic, dusty conditions, and humidity can cause the pads to harden, which makes the friction surfaces make noise on contact. Noisy pads can usually be sanded down to eliminate the hardening by using sandpaper. However, if the brake pads go through crystalisation, this would alter the pads so much that they would require replacement.

Brake noise can also indicate a weak link elsewhere in the brake system and may require further investigation. The noise may be an indication of oncoming brake failure. If your brakes are making consistent noises for an extended period, it is a good idea to bring your vehicle into Automotive Hospital for a brake inspection. 

If the brake pedal is pulsing when it is pressed on, it is probably caused by warped or excessive worn-down rotors. Worn out suspension parts and large bearing clearances may be the issue. The rotors most likely need to be turned or suspension components need to be replaced. 

Installing aftermarket brake systems or components will not void your warranty. 

Brake kits are specifically designed for the exact years, makes, and models. It is very rare that calipers, rotors, and brackets from one vehicle will be compatible with another vehicle. Unless your new car is the exact same model and year as your old one, you should not try to transfer the brake system.
